Most of us are blissfully aware that May has arrived, thanks to a relaxing Bank Holiday Monday yesterday! So while the weather warms up, let’s start the month the right way: with lots of outdoor events!
If you’re not headed to Ibiza this month for the lively beach opening festivals and are looking for something a little closer to home, the Peckham Rye music festival has become incredibly popular over the years. The two day festival, which this year spans the 12th to the 14th of May, attracts a diverse crowd to it’s event. The live music is a balance of dubstep and house and there are various talks and workshops around the outskirts of the event so check it out if you’ve got a free few hours!
Backyard Cinema is currently receiving a lot of attention for it’s Romeo and Juliet screening at St Mary’s Church, where a gospel choir perform live to the film’s iconic soundtrack. It’s a pretty heavenly experience but we can’t forget that, simultaneously, the cinema, currently themed ‘The Last Chapel’, is also showing some great classics like Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. Book your beanbag, blanket and popcorn, settle in with some good friends and good drinks and enjoy some of the best action films there are in an immersive experience.
This month will see the return of the rooftop converted into Brixton’s very own beach party. Brixton Beach Boulevard, complete with soft sand, deckchairs, live music, various parties and BBQ style food, returns at the end of this month, May 25th and will, no doubt, return to it’s place as a great place for daytime drinking and evening partying throughout the summer. The opening party on Saturday 27th of May, with live music from local talent, is bound to sell out fast so dig out your beach towel and sunglasses and book!
